A competitive cruise for the Perry and Walton Cup for the best passage to Dunkerque
Distance to Dunkerque is 44 NM and HW for Dover is 3rd May 1006 BST, 4th 1047 BST and 5th 1129 BST; just after mid range; Dunkerque HW is +00:50 on Dover.
Start times will be at the discretion of each boat. Leaving around 0630 hours will give 2 hours against and 7 hours with the tide to arrive early afternoon. Working channel for this cruise is Ch 72.
Dover boats are entitled to the Transmanche reduced mooring fees at the Port du Grand Large (first marina to port), which includes free bikes and a free bus service both to town and the neighbouring seaside village of St Malo. We are planning to eat in an excellent restaurant in St Malo unless we hear of better recommendations.
On Sunday, some may choose to sail down to Gravelines and overnight in the Bassin Vauban’s muddy marina. One drawback to Gravelines is leaving at HW on Monday for the return to Dover, with the tide against us for the first four hours.
