RCPYC is one of the oldest yacht clubs in England, and is active in all sailing activities. The cruising and racing programme  offers visitors and newcomers to participate by arrangement.
The Dover Water Sports Centre on the seafront opposite the clubhouse provides tuition in dinghy sailing and windsurfing. The harbour itself is used as a training area by would-be cross channel swimmers. Several members' yachts are kept or cruised abroad.
